The Community was able to learn about the astronomical world around us. The main attraction was the 9 ft. discovery dome offering mini educational sessions inside an inflatable planetarium where the solar system will be brought to life, right in front of your eyes! Light, galactically-themed refreshments were served as we explore the sky from the Nature Center.  Unlimited star gazing through high-powered telescopes were provided by the Brazos Valley Astronomy Club. People learned how to use telescopes and what’s visible in the winter sky.  Galaxy-themed snacks and hot chocolate helped fuel you up for the explorations. They had space-themed crafts and games to bring those far-off ideas to your fingertips.  Informational booths about light pollution, constellations, telescopes and further your understanding of the astronomical world.

The event took place at the Lick Creek Nature Center at 13600 Rock Prairie Road. The City of College Station’s Parks and Recreation Department partnered with Texas A&M’s Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences Department to bring this unique, star-studded event to area residents.

It could be an event that is every year event and continues to grow as time goes on.  The event went well even due to the weather that happened that day and evening they had a great turn out with selling all the tickets to the Star Dome.

Improvement to the event is adding lights and signage to along the road to Lick Creek to add extra safety for the guests. This is so as someone drives down the road they can see where they are going instead of just driving down a dark road to nowhere when no signs are posted until you get to the gate of Lick Creek.

I was in charge of the line mangement at the star dome, making sure the guests showed up at the correct time.  Making sure everyone was in the dome on time to start the show and not fall behind on the schedule.  I helped guests enter and exit the dome safety.
